About Jamie and David -- The principles and founders of The Jamie Young Company
Ten years ago, Jamie Young Jeter and David Jeter, both artists with a passion for travel, took a day trip to Mexico, where they filled their car trunk with interesting gardening pots they discovered in a roadside shop. They returned to Los Angeles and promptly sold the entire haul to a local florist. Recognizing an underserved market, they began to design and produce their own line of flower pots, only to discover that the rustic, hand-crafted quality of the pieces would make unusual bases for lamps, and with this conversion, the Jamie Young Company was born. Their love of travel and desire to understand other cultures, took them all over the world discovering ancient art forms, incredible textiles, and an overwhelming desire to create wonderful eclectic designs.
In less than a decade, Jamie and David’s modest start has grown into a thriving lighting and home accessories enterprise with over 25 employees in its Los Angeles headquarters and an experienced sales force with showrooms in Los Angeles, High Point, and Atlanta. Today, the company’s products are available at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Anthropoligie, as well as 1,500 upscale furniture stores, and to the trade interior design firms. They have also designed lamps for many hotels around the country from Ritz Carlton’s, Marriott’s, Hiltons and the best boutique properties in the US.
Both are accomplished artists. Jamie, a Los Angeles native, received her training at Parson’s School of Design in New York, while David received his at the San Francisco Art Institute. Jamie’s 15 years of experience in commercial art, design, and marketing merged with David’s 20 years starting as a sculpture and master mold maker as well as in the design and production of high-end furniture. They have created a formula for innovation, consistency, and unparalleled craftsmanship.
Jamie and David continue to travel the world, discovering and reviving lost or abandoned decorative arts. They also continue to study the cultures they visit while becoming good friends with the small factories that make the incredible products. David has set up wiring facilities that meet UL standards around the world using Jamie Young Company parts to maintain the high level of quality that is necessary. Jamie and David both constantly work at growing and improving the Jamie Young Company vision in design and as an enLIGHTened company.
