JAMIE YOUNG GOES GREEN

For the Jamie Young Company going “green” has always been intertwined through every aspect of our business from our product to our packaging.  Our environmentally friendly collections include our Low Country Collection and Mango Wood Collection.  These collections are produced from mango wood.  The mango wood is from plantation grown trees that are very fast growing and sustainable.  They are harvested only when they are past their fruit bearing years.  Similarly, our Bamboo collection, made from bamboo—a type of grass that can grow up to 3 feet a day—is a great sustainable material.   We also make use of the strangler vine, normally a cast off material, we create our twisted vine lamps out of this vine.

The wood materials in our line are not the only sustainable resource we utilize at the Jamie Young Company.  Our Sandblasted Sea Glass Collection is formed from recycled glass.  And our mouth-blown glass is made with sand, an abundant resource.

Our office is also environmentally conscious; our recycling practices even extend to the warehouse.  We recycle all of our waste cardboard.  Additionally, all of our cardboard shipping boxes and packing supplies are made from recycled material.  To pass this momentum on to our customers we gave them free compact fluorescent light bulbs with our lamps for one year.  Hopefully the giveaway got our customers used to the idea of using these bulbs.  Using this type of bulb can have a huge impact in carbon dioxide emissions.
